Dear Friend, Back in 1997, I was thinking of starting a wig and hair piece Salon and a store on the internet. I started looking for wholesale suppliers and drop shippers. They weren't easy to find in the library directories. There was no directory of "Wig of Hair Wholesale Supplier" back then. I tried various avenues both off and on the internet and what I found was that suppliers were very hard to find back then -  and they still are today. I searched the Internet

Many of the biggest wholesalers don't even show up on the internet since they don't advertise and some don't even have websites. It seems the smaller they were and the more their product cost, the more they tended to show up on internet searches.    

When I did an internet search I found a lot of middle men of course, a lot of so called "wholesale to the public websites," and of course websites that said they sold wholesale who actually only gave you discount if you bought in large quantity. I remember one said to me very proudly "We will give you 30% off retail if you buy $600 worth of product."  Funny, they are still all out there today. The names may have changed but what they do and how they do it is just the same as it has even been.

I also noticed that a lot of the wholesalers (the real one's I mean) were offering the same brand items from the same companies. They weren't tied to any particular brand and they invariably had the same or very similar high prices. Some of them had retail sites that sold on the cheap as well.  I began to wonder if they had some secret "Insiders" source they were all buying from so they could sell at those low prices.  I found out that they did!

The fact is that the internet, as good as it has gotten, and with all of the information there is to find  there, is just a BIG waste of time when it comes to finding good dependable and real manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers in the wig industry or the hair goods industry. Sure, you can find some with a lot of work after few days and, after a few more days you can find a few more that look like they may be real suppliers. Sound familiar? But finding 20-30% of the suppliers (and only a few you can do business with) after all that work probably isn't worth it - especially if you don't find what you are looking for in the first place.

Then after you locate, what looks like real wig or hair suppliers, you need to make phone calls and determine if they are real, what they sell, what the purchasing requirement are, what the minimums are, what quantities you need to be purchased (each month, quarter, year) to be able to continue to buy wholesale, where the best price breaks are to get the best deals and so forth. 

After you're done with that you will need to fill your recycle bin with a lot of wasted paper because the ones you don't want too do business with will have to be pitched somewhere.   

The fact is most of us have something better to do - like getting our business started or expanding it.  I'm frustrated just thinking about it. Maybe that's just because I already did the above and writing it down just makes me as tired now as I was then. But there is a fast an easy solution.

I tried Wholesale Web Directories and Yellow Pages.

Recently, I tried various "wholesalers web directory" sites on the internet to see if I could find wholesale suppliers I didn't know about already who could do wig designs and my own label for me. Some of these wholesaler directories and wholesale drop ship sites advertised thousands of wholesalers but behold, (after I paid to get the information) most of which was garbage, no suppliers could get me what I needed. I found one "wholesalers directory" that had a few hundred suppliers and I was very pleased - until I found out most of them were retailers. Wholesalers websites didn't work.

So... I tried the internet yellow page.  Great stuff that. I found about 75 wholesalers, 95%  turned out to be retailers. I wasted a lot of my time and money calling them just to find out that "no they didn't sell wholesale."  

Some of you may have heard of the "Gong show." If you didn't make it, a gong went off and you were asked to leave the show. I'm not old enough to really remember it either, but I remember making the same or similar sound when I was leaving those "wholesaler directories," "drop ship sites" and "internet yellow Pages."  Sorry but they didn't give me any good info.    Gong! 

I bought a list

I ran across one website that said they had a ton of wholesalers on a list that I could buy. It sounded good so sure, why not?

Someone once said "there is a sucker born every minute" OK, Was it Barnum or Bailey? I had an excuse however. I was exhausted from my previous searching and I was desperate to get some real information at least name and phone numbers. I would take it from there.  Sooo ... I bought the list - and I waited for it to arrive.  When it finally go to me it had hundreds of suppliers listed with addresses and phone numbers. Wow, I was thrilled. I spent 59.00 for the list, reviewed it, made some phone calls and then I went out and bought a large gong for 79.00 to celebrate - the fact that again I get ripped off - most of the companies listed seemed to be RETAILERS! 

 Then I took matters into my own hands.

Ok, here is what I did. I hired a researcher because I didn't have weeks or months to try to find the information myself. Fortunately, I already had some of the information to start with. The researcher did a great job and after only 10 hours I had what I needed to get my stuff done.

I found myself with a ton of information on my hands and looking at it all I told the researcher to keep going and get me everything he could on wig manufacturers, distributors, and real wholesalers and hair suppliers all over the world. On top of that I asked him to get me all the information I, or anyone else,  needed to make an intelligent decision on whether to work with a supplier. (I had an idea in mind.)

That include all their vitals like what kind of supplier they were (Manufacturer, Distributor and so on), what they actually sold, name, address phone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, website addresses, how long they have been in business. I also want to know what documentation they needed from me to purchase from them and I wanted their application forms. I need to know if they drop shipped and how much they charged. I also need their catalogs and wholesale price lists. To top it off I wanted to know what their minimum purchase requirement to buy wholesale. How much I needed to buy to get a better wholesale price, where the next price break was. How I could pay and on and on.  This took my researcher  LOTS of time. Near 350 hours all said and done.

We had almost 300 potential suppliers to start with and eventually distilled it down to a little over 125. The rest just didn't pan out as real. We did include a few discounters whose prices were around actual wholesale. We discarded suppliers whose phone didn't work, whose website were abandoned, or those that seemed to be rip off artists - not suppliers. There are many of those online supposedly supplying lace wigs right now by the way. BUYER BEWARE!  

We had a list of over 125 real suppliers, researched by real people, who needed real products,  at great prices is what we ended up with and it is growing as we research and as more suppliers find out about us.   

Now the idea I had in mind was to make all of this information (that you just can't find elsewhere without a ton of research) available to people who wanted real honest to God suppliers including wig manufacturers, distributor and real wholesalers as well as hair replacement manufacturers, and Raw human hair and synthetic hair fibers suppliers as well as suppliers of wefts, hair pieces  of every kind etc. etc. 

I also wanted a list of suppliers who carried supplies (for shops) such as mannequins, shampoo, bangs, hair bands, clips, tape, lace wig and Hair replacement application glue and dissolvers and a lot more. In addition I wanted to know about all of the training and business opportunities available out there for people just getting into or expanding their business.

All the information that we gathered then had to be moved to the internet to make it available in usable searchable fashion to people like you who don't want to do all of that brain (and finger) numbing work. That took several more months and thousand of dollars to set up.

   This is a fantastic resource and a I will put my name and reputation behind it.
